About SailboatReference

SailboatReference is a reference for sailboat specifications: dimensions, weights, sail plans and performance ratios, in metric units, with the ratios explained where you read them. Every change to the catalogue is reviewed by hand.

Why this site exists

  • Specifications are metric first, so boats from different countries can be compared on the same scale.
  • Ratios such as sail area/displacement or ballast/displacement are explained in context, with what a value means in practice. See Sources & methodology.
  • New and announced models are tracked alongside the historical catalogue.
  • Owners can contribute photos and price observations.

How the catalogue is maintained

Nothing is published automatically. Submissions from importers and bots, proposed changes to existing entries, and images and prices contributed by users all go into an admin queue where they are reviewed by a person before they appear on the site. Where the data comes from, how units are converted and how the ratios are defined is described on the Sources & methodology page.
